Amani Wins Prestigious ‘Africa NGO Leadership Award 2016’

Today, the Moshi/Tanzania-headquartered Amani Children’s Home, Centre for Street Children, was awarded the “Africa NGO Leadership Award 2016”. The Awards Ceremony was part of a two-day ‘Africa Leadership Conference’ in Hotel Le Méridien on the island of Mauritius. Amani received the Award for the effective ways in which it gives hundreds of street children their rights to quality education and a positive future with their families and communities. Dr. Juliette Biao Koudenoukpo, Africa Regional Director, UNEP, United Nations, accepted the Award on behalf of Amani.

The Africa Leadership Conference and Awards are an initiative of a large group of international business leaders united under the World CSR Day and the Stars of the Industry Group. More than 100 international business leaders and CEOs, Presidents and Vice-Chancellors of various Universities in Africa, and senior Government officials attended the conference.

Meindert Schaap, Executive Director of Amani: “Currently, Amani works with 345 street children, both boys and girls, and operates in three cities in Tanzania – Moshi, Arusha, and Singida. More than 250 former street children are supported by Amani for their education. This Award is a great recognition of our important work and gives us the courage to continue expanding our reach, so we can help many more street children throughout Tanzania.”
