In 2002, with the help of a couple of volunteers, Amani was able to send eight former street children to local primary schools. Charles, one of the first Amani children to go to school, made up a spontaneous song and dance when he heard the good news!

Funding was sporadic and the children and caregivers often went to area churches to ask for food. During the year, Amani was home to 31 homeless and orphaned children.
