Meet Diane Morrison- Board Chair, Friends of Amani US
Amani Children's Center is supported by volunteer fundraising organizations around the world, including the Friends of Amani US. Diane Morrison is the Chair of the Board of Directors and shares her story below.
“I became a founding member of Friends of Amani US when Amani was first getting started. I had been working for another US-based organization which had plans to start a secondary school in Tanzania. During a site visit, a young, tenacious woman camped out on the doorstep waiting to share her vision for helping homeless children who desperately needed a sense of security in their lives.
As Amani grew from being one woman’s vision to several people’s passion, one thing was always clear: Amani never gives up on these children offering hope amidst the uncertainty in their young lives.
I appreciate the organic nature of how Amani has grown and continues to thrive thanks to our support. Over 25 years it has become an esteemed organization whose work with children is unequalled in Tanzania. That’s an amazing success story.
When I see the smiling faces of children who have endured so much in their lives, and hear about their successes, it warms my heart. The culture of commitment to their well-being extends throughout the Amani staff, and that also warms my heart. Amani’s unique reunification program not only helps each child individually but reinforces family bonds. The future of entire communities ultimately benefit from successful family structure.
Why would I turn away? I’m totally hooked on this model of saving lives and filling street children with hope for their future.
I’m now the Chair of Friends of Amani US and our board is filled with members who are committed to helping Amani ensure a sustainable future worthy of our unwavering support.
